New York: Scribner's Sons, (1973). First U.S. edition. INSCRIBED BY SILLITOE on front endpaper, "All the good stuff/ came out of 'Mimic.'/ Written in one of Robert/ Graves' houses in Majorca/ 1971!/ Best wishes to Walter,/ and in sincere appreciation/ of his valuable work,/ from Alan/ 28th March 1985/ Nashville." Additionally signed in full on title page. Walter Sullivan (1924-2006) was an author, critic, longtime Vanderbilt University professor, authority on Southern literature and one of the founding members of The Fellowship of Southern Writers. Most likely inscribed by Sillitoe (1928-2010) while his wife, the distinguished British poet Ruth Fainlight, was Poet in Residence at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Near fine in near fine dust jacket. TOGETHER WITH a copy of the January 1969 issue of the British political and literary journal, Encounter, with the first appearance of "Mimic," the story referenced in Sillitoe's inscription.
