About This Item
8vo. Original printed wrappers, spine taped, back cover detached. New York 1892. First Edition.
Formed in 1880 as the result of a merger between Telephone Company of New York and American Bell Telephone, the Metropolitan Telephone and Telegraph Co. served the greater New York City area until 1896 when it consolidated with various other companies under the name of the New York Telephone Company.
Directories were published annually from 1880 to 1896, with several gaps. This historically significant directory lists the names, phone numbers, occupations, and addresses for numerous residents and businesses in New York City and the surrounding area, including New Jersey and Greenwich, Connecticut.
Cover worn, edges chipped and taped; spine taped; back cover detached; scattered chipping with some tape repairs to first few leaves; o/w interior clean and sound. A fascinating look into the early days of the telephone.
