Description

Garden City: Doubleday, Page & Company. Very Good- with no dust jacket. 1924. First Edition. Hardcover. Booth Tarkington (1869-1946) was a prolific and popular and award-winning author in the first few decades of the 20th century. This book is the third in his "Growth Trilogy" series; the first two were The Turmoil (1915), and The Magificent Ambersons (1918) which won the Pulitzer Prize. This novel was released in December 1923 as a limited, signed first edition, and then in January a trade edition was issued. This copy has a stated 1924 printing date on the title page and is in the original publisher's green cloth covers with gilt spine and cover lettering. It has the attributes of a first trade edition as described in Russo & Sullivan's Bibliography of Booth Tarkington. The gilt lettering is dull on the cover and the spine as is the gilt rule on the cover, but they are still quite legible. This is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings, no previous owner names and no bookplates with the exception of a previous owner's name in pencil at the top edge of the front end paper (which could easily be erased). ; 8vo, 8"- 9" tall; 493 pages .
