Overall a VERY GOOD book in a EXCELLENT brodart protected dust jacket. A good gift. Frederick Courteney Selous was a British explorer, hunter, and conservationist famous for his exploits in Southern Africa. His real-life adventures inspired Sir H. Rider Haggard to create the fictional Allan Quatermain character. Selous was also a good friend of Theodore Roosevelt and Frederick Russell Burnham. He was the older brother of ornithologist and writer Edmund Selous. This is the first biography of Selous since the one published by J. G. Millais in 1918. Well researched, the author presents a balanced look at the life of the man who was known to the press of his time as "The Mighty Nimrod". . First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover.
