Description

London: Faber and Faber, 1946 . First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Very Good. 8.5" by 5.5". None. A first edition of Forrest Reid's thoughts on poetry, in the original, unclipped dust wrapper. First edition, in the original bright blue cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Printed on pale blue paper. Written by Irish novelist, translator and literary critic, Forrest Reid. This work originated as a series of talks to young people on the appreciation of poetry. Reid believed that the way to get people interested in poetry was to focus on the poems themselves, rather than the historical background of the poet. Reid examines the romantic movement, discussing a number of poets including William Wordsworth, John Clare and W. B. Yeats. In the original blue cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart, with light bumping to the extremities. A touch of fading to the extremities. Occasional mark to endpapers. Dust wrapper is smart, with very light chipping and the odd closed tear. Light age toning and sunning to the wrap, moreso to the spine. Small tide mark to the rear of the wrap, with one or two spots. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
