Custom bookplate and a 1923 owner's signature at front. Spine ends with some wear and tips a bit bumped. A very good, clean and tight copy. "A major methodological innovation in the study of animal behaviour. Interested primarily in imitative and ideational behaviour in animals, Leonard Hobhouse devised a series of new and ingenious problem-solving tests that later served as a basis for Wolfgang Kohler's work on primate intelligence" (Publisher). Leonard Trelawny Hobhouse, was an English liberal political theorist and sociologist, who has been considered one of the leading and earliest proponents of social liberalism. His works, culminating in his famous book Liberalism, occupy a seminal position within the canon of New Liberalism.
