About This Item
New York: Arco Publishing Co, 1965. First Edition. Paperback. Very good. Paperback. 145 pages. Illustrated with numerous black and white photographs. Light shelf wear to the paperback. A small black mark on the upper right corner. Previous owner inscription inside the front cover - "Octavia Vivian 8-3-87 Salt Lake City, Utah." From the foreword - "Mississippi From Within" covers the period from July 2, 1964 (the day the civil rights act was signed into law) to May, 1965, when this book went to press. The material comes from over 5,000 issues of Mississippi's 20 daily newspapers - from letters to the editor, news stories, editorials, columns, headlines and advertsiements......No account of this turbulent year would be complete without the graphic evidence of photographs. Although a few have appeared in Mississippi newspapers, most of the photos - often taken under the most hazardous conditions - have never been published.
