A charming first edition copy of Sir William Russell Flint's 'Models of Propriety' complete with coloured prints of sketches by the author. Containing supposedly fictional anecdotes of artists models, this text is dedicated to 'all virtuous young ladies who pose unadorned for honest artists'. In an unclipped dustwrapper. Sir William Russell Flint was a Scottish illustrator and artist well known for his watercolour paintings of women. Although achieving considerable success, he produced illustrations for notable works such as H Rider Haggard's 'King Solomon's Mines' (in the 1907 edition) and Chaucer's 'The Canterbury Tales (1912), many art critics were disturbed and critical of his supposed 'crassness' within his art and frequently deemed his depictions of the female form as overtly eroticized.
