London: London Transport, 1964. 127 pages, 36 b/w illustrations. Some wear, rubbing to covers, small crease to spine, contents fine. Very scarce. "Without any doubt, London is one of the best cities in the world for modern architecture. But it is also one of the biggest cities in the world, and it does not make a display of its best things. A visitor looking for new buildings in the City and West End might well be justified in turning away with a shudder. Yet delightful things be be waiting for him in Lewisham or St. Albans. Hence this book, which consists of short notes on about two hundred and fifty buildings. All of them are in the London Transport area, which goes as far as Bishop's Stortford in one direction and Guildford in another; all but a handful of them are included on merit, rather than the architect's reputation or capacity for self-advertisement. The remainder consist of a few buildings (such as Shell and London Airport) that are so big or so well known that it would be wrong to leave them out. I hope that my comments will leave the reader in doubt whether I think he is coming on a sheep or a goat. In addition I have listed about thirty buildings that I thought were near misses." [622]. First Edition. Illustrated Card Covers. Very Good. 170mm. x 100mm.. Book.

Description:
In Verona, Per A. Scolari. 1749-1750. Hard Cover. The first three volumes of what was eventually an eight-volume set. Vol I: 4 p.l., 388 p.; Vol II: [6], 395-838, [2] p.; Vol. III: 325, [326-327] pages; illustrations; quarto; 27 cm. These historical notices of the churches of Verona are concerned with their architectural history and the paintings and other artwork contained in each. Biancolini published his most significant documents in these early volumes. He continued to add to this foundation and published volumes through the eighth, which appeared in 1771. Schlosser-Magnino (p. 567) calls for 7 volumes, but the most complete set we could find, the one in the Avery Collection at Columbia, has eight in nine volumes. This is a foundation source for the study of architecture in Verona. Very good, untrimmed copy in contemporary cardboard. Stock#OB120.

Casa del HerreroHouse of the Blacksmithstands today as one of the most fully developed and intact examples of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. It was designed and built between 1922 and 1925 as a second house for George Fox Steedman, a St. Louis industrialist. Thought principally to be the work of George Washington Smith, the architect, Steedman himself generated many ideas during the initial design phase that were both a blessing and curse to Smith. Steedmans vision prevailed, and throughout the decade following the houses initial completion, he continued to rework both house and garden, engaging the architects Lutah Maria Riggs, Edwards, Plunkett & Howell, and Floyd Brewster, and garden… Read More
