Illustrator: Photographic. preface to the 1944 edition, preface to the 1945 edition, preface for the general reader, preface for students, acknowledgements, Dramatis Personae, the and introduction by author, four appendices and general index. The text is illustrated with numerous black-and-white reproductions of various artist's works and eight coloured reproductions of artists works, which are tipped in. Blue coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. The history of modern French painting, from 1863 to the time of the book's writing  1940. The book covers the various artists and the art styles  e.g., Dada, Surrealism, Rhythmic Decoration, Realism and Impressionism and Cubism. Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with bumping of the book corners. Rubbing of the book panels with some noticeable fading to the back strip. The spine is quite cocked. Light browning of the text block edges along with scattered faint foxing. Offset tanning and very faint foxing to the endpapers and there is a small erosion mark to the top right hand corner of the front paste-down. There is a inch split to the top edge of the rear hinge. Age toning of the text block edges with a very occasional foxing spot. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall. [4], V - XXXI, [3], 3 - 424 pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
