New York: Harper & Brothers, 1863. Hardcover. Fair. Civil War era work on the practice of war, written by a Hungarian soldier and author, who fought in Europe before volunteering for service in the Union Army, serving under General Gouverneur K. Warren (known as the "hero of Little Round Top" for his actions at Gettysburg) of Cold Spring, New York.

Szabad (ca 1822 - 1894) also wrote a diary account of his time as a Civil War prisoner at the notorious Libby Prison. Contents focus on European wars and practice: the army, combat, rivers & bridges, marches & maneuvres, plans of campaign, and important battles.

12 mo, iv, 284 pp, publisher's ads [4] pp. Publisher's gilt stamped brown cloth. Covers damp stained, rubbed at corners and spine; one signature loose, some damp top corners. As is, all legible and holding together. OCLC: 317891188.
