In De moderne Helicon (1792) neemt Arend Fokke Simonsz zijn schrijvende tijdgenoten genadeloos op de hak. Het verhaal gaat over de Griekse god Apollo, die een winkel in poezie heeft geopend. Schrijvers komen van heinde en verre om daar poetisch taalgebruik en metaforen te kopen. De vreemdste attributen staan in de vitrines: van kloppende harten tot lillende ingewanden en ledematen van suiker. En voor de gevoelige dichter is er een groot assortiment zilte tranen. Fokke bekritiseert het belabberde peil van de eigentijdse dichtkunst en stelt en passant allerlei maatschappelijke waarden en normen ter discussie. Intussen steekt hij zijn eigen geleerdheid niet onder stoelen of banken en lardeert hij zijn tekst met hoogdravende aantekeningen, waarin hij zijn kennis van de klassieke mythologie en de geschiedenis etaleert. De moderne Helicon is een van de scherpste satires uit de Nederlandse letterkunde.

Terms and conditions of sale. Books are offered if unsold. The order of incoming orders will be respected strictly. Orders can be placed via e-mail (info@erik-tonen-books.be), or in writing, preferably not by telephone. The books that are offered online are not available at our bookshop at 48 Kloosterstraat. You will receive an e-mail confirming the availability of the book(s) and providing details with regard to shipment costs (we use Belgian and Dutch postal companies for the most cost-effective shipments. The indicated shipment costs have been calculated according to the rates for shipments of up to 2 kilo. We will choose the most cost-effective shipment option, depending on the weight: either letter post or parcel post. Payment must be made before delivery; ordered books will be reserved during 12 days in expectation of payment or confirmation of shipment. Payment can be made by transferring money to our Belgian bank; banktransfer IBAN BE48 4098 5839 0127 and the BIC (Bank Identifier Code)(swift) / KREDBEBB , Payment via Paypal account erik.tonen@pandora.be is also possible. Prices are net prices and free of VAT (margin arrangement) and expressed in euros. Shipment and payments costs are charged to the customer. Each shipment contains a delivery slip. Ordered books will remain our property until payment has been received. Our books are shipped in decently packaged form; The state of the books is not specified if the works are in good condtion (smaller, minor defects such as an ex libris stamp, a name on the first page, minimal wear and tear etc. are not specified, unless specifically requested). If the ordered works do not match the specified description, they may be reshipped within seven days after receipt, after prior notice.
