Typical light soil to boards; backstrip slightly darkened and spotted; internally fine and in an attractive, lightly edge-rubbed slipcase. From the library of Ben and Bernarda Bryson Shahn, with estate label tipped on to front pastedown. Penn's first published monograph, now recognized as a mid-century landmark among photobooks. "...Moments Preserved gathers Penn's vast variety of enthusiasms...Penn reinvented the classic daylight studio portrait for a more casual time, undercutting its formality but heightening its potential as a revealing performance" (Roth 101, pp. 158-159).

Includes a very good sampling of some of Penn's classic early photographs. A tight near fine copy in a very good dust jacket that has some chips and tears to the spine ends and corners and some other light wear and in a near fine pictorial slipcase that has some light wear. Still a pleasing copy of what is still one of the best books on Penn. (Roth 158-159).

Contains many photographs of people from around the world, including celebrities such as Sophia Loren, Christian Dior, Salvador Dali, and Yves St. Laurent. Page 144 contains a signature from one of the models pictured, Betty McLauchlen Dorso.
