Denver: Fred A. Rosenstock Old West Publishing Company, 1969. Hardcover. Edited by Lyman Tyler. Folio. Quarter tan cloth spine and pictorial paper over boards. (Ca. 100pp). Numerous illustrations and maps. Near fine. Superb and tight first edition, limited to 2,000 copies, of volume one of the Western History Center Publications and volume one of the "Annals of the West" series of co-publisher University of Utah Press. This copy bears a fine philatelic addition: Tipped to front flyleaf is a relevant First Day Cover, 6½" X 3½", cancelled in Coloma, California, on 24 January 1948 and with "First Day of Issue" so noted. Single 3-cent "California Gold Centennial" stamp at upper right and filling the leftmost third a printed "Centenary of Discovery of Gold in California" cachet. Typed recipient name/address of Ralph G. Newman (2011-98), founder of Chicago's famed Abraham Lincoln Book Shop.
