New York: George H. Doran Company, 1919. Early Reprint Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good - . In red cloth with gilt to spine. Early reprint in a smaller format and part of the Murray Hill Library from the 1920's. Light edgewear, mostly to spine ends and some tiny spots of loss to gilt on spine. Light tanning to endpapers. Jacket has 1 inch square piece missing to top of spine and has had tape repairs on inside of jacket to long split on spine at crease with front panel and corners. Some chipping to top edge of jacket, bottom of spine and corners with one small chip missing to middle of jacket spine and one to rear crease. Otherwise, a few short closed tears to jacket edges and another vertical split to spine crease at rear panel that has not been repaired with associated horizontal splits across spine.Scarce with jacket.

Synopsis

The Moon and Sixpence is a 1919 short novel by William Somerset Maugham based on the life of the painter Paul Gauguin. The story is told in episodic form by the first-person narrator as a series of glimpses into the mind and soul of the central character, Charles Strickland, a middle aged English stock broker who abandons his wife and children abruptly to pursue his desire to become an artist.
