Moore is known for his Irish patriotism and hatred of the British suppression of Ireland. Besides his careful history of Ireland, he is primarily known as a poet and had an association with Byron. He was the first to unite the art of poetry and music in Irish Literature. He also revived the traditions of the minstrel and the troubadour of the Middle Ages. Moore's position as the national lyrist of Ireland was characterized by his break with the tradition which in his case is strongly endowed with the Celtic temperament. Handsomely bound by Bayntun in ¾ black polished calf over marbled paper covered boards, raised bands with compartments fully gilt decorated, green Morocco spine label gilt, marbled endpapers. A tiny bit of toning to margins. A lovely copy.
