In original dark red cloth covered boards, gilt titling and decoration to the spine, with the author's name at the bottom of where publisher normally goes, and the front panel is gilt decorated, with a quote from Disraeli. The top edge of pages 25 through 234 have been bruised, otherwise apart from ageing to the edges of the pages, the book shows no damage. Published by subscription, with an introduction by Dr J A Gilruth and with a foreword by the Honourable J M Fowler. Illustrated with line drawings and "facsimiles". Numerous footnotes. " " "MORDECAI MACOBBER is mercifully brief, but it has the counterbalancing demerit of being very tedious, The object of the writer is stated to be to "create an amusing Australian character of the Wilkins Micawber type." It is a praiseworthy intention, and it is a great, pity he has not had better luck. The book purports to be written by the "late Hon. B. Schlimm-Mazel." and to be published at the Federal Capital in 1937, and personally we should have felt no regret had it been held back till that date. What it is all about we have not been able to discover,.but this particular volume is certainly not about Mordecai MacCobber. There is a glimmering suspicion of humour in places, but it is very evanescent. Our copy comes from Messrs. Walker and Welford." The Mercury, Hobart Friday 13, 1914 Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
