Description

London: Stephen Swift, 1911. First edition. Hardback. Good. 8.5" by 7". Sir Basil T. Blackwood. A delightfully illustrated work by Hilaire Belloc depicting comedic interpretations of fictional Lords, Earls and Barons. First edition of the work. Dated from copies on JISC. In original publisher's boards. French-born English author Hilaire Belloc is most known for a humorous approach in his light verse for children. More Peers demonstrates this endearing style, as Belloc creates verses which lightly mock fictional Lords, Earls and Barons. Illustrated by Sir Basil T. Blackwood, internally in black and white and with the cover in colour. 47 illustrations, with an additional drawing on title page. In original publisher's boards. Externally sound, with age toning to cover and slight wear to the extremities. Backstrip detached, work remains bound. Slight sunning to boards. Joints tender but still reasonably firm. Hinges tender with cords visible in places. Slight spotting to endpapers. Internally generally firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned with the occasional spot. Good
