About This Item
London/ New York: Country Life/ Charles Scribner's, 1936. 'First ordinary edition' (1935-limited ) . Blue Cloth. Good/No Jacket. 23 Cms x 29 Cms. half-title with drawing of ducks+f/piece (col.self-portrait)+xiv+138, 15 further col.plates ex-pagination, 46 back & white plates also ex-pagination, occasionaly woodcut endpieces; tanning to end-papers and pastedowns, slightly also to half-title and final leaves and marginal spots of same occ. throughout and textblock edges, 1952-dated gift inscription to front endpaper, final endpaper creased and back gutterpaper split exposing netting but quite secure; covers clean but spine and joitn ends rubbed and slightly split, bottom spine chipped, corner rubbed, joints and corners faded. What saves this is that as Scott's first publication, with some quite brilliant coloured illustrations, it marks the debut of its later very famous author (and collaborator with Sir David Attenborough), in addition none of the listed copies appear to have jackets and are in similarly mediocre condition.
