About This Item

London: Hamish Hamilton Ltd, 1979. Leather. Fine. 9.5" by 6.5". Not Stated. A fascinating first-hand account of scientific intelligence used during the Second World War, in a lovely leather binding by Maltby's of Oxford. The first edition, fifth impression of this work rebound in a half calf binding, with gilt spine lettering. Top edge gilt. Binder's stamp of Maltby's of Oxford to the front paste down. Reginald Victor Jones (1911-1997) was a British physicist who played a very important role in scientific intelligence during the Second World War. He worked for the Air Ministry, helping to defend Britain by studying enemy technology, including the German radio navigation system Knickebein, and inventing deceptive counter-measures. This work gives a compelling account of his work during the Second World War. Illustrated with many black-and-white photographs. Rebound in a half calf binding. Externally, in lovely condition. Small and very faint mark to the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Fine
