Author "Crawfie" had known Queen Mary for 19 years, having become at age 22 the private tutor to the Queen's daughters. She writes of her as one of the great women of her time. The Dowager Queen had been Princess May of Cambridge, engaged to the Duke of Clarence who tragically died. She wed his brother who became King George V. She was the Duchess of York, Princess of Wales, Queen, then Dowager Queen. Her life unfolds here in the author's informal, personal style.
