About This Item

New York: Robert M. McBride & Company, 1935. The second book by Silone (pseudonym for Secondino Tranquilli, 1900-1978) who both helped found the Italian Communist Party and worked as an OSS agent in World War II. His novels are strongly anti-Fascist. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the First American Edition, translated from the Italian ("Un Viaggio a Parigi") by Samuel Putnam. Not a common book. Black cloth binding with gilt titling on the spine; tipped-in illustration on the front cover. Clean text; 221 pages. The last 21 pages are a "Note on Ignazio Silone" by Nettie Sutro; translated from the German by Barthold Fle (the book had been published in Germany prior to this). There is a slight lean, and the gilt on the spine is somewhat dulled. The dustjacket is unclipped. The spine is slightly darkened. It shows considerable edgewear, with chipping at all margins; in an archival plastic protector,. First American Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good (Plus)/Very Good (Minus). 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
