First edition with an interesting provenance.
Book is from the library of Grace,Marchioness Curzon of Kedleston the second wife of UK Conservative statesman Lord Curzon who, among other positions, was Foreign Secretary until 1924.
Grace was a wealthy 32 year old widow when she married Lord Curzon and acquired 3 stepdaughters one of who married UK facsist leader Oswald Mosley. Grace is reputed to have had an affair with Mosley.
The book contains the signature and bookplate of Grace.
Boords are clean and binding tight. Spine ends pinched with a tiny tear at end of bottom spine. One corner bumped. Slight spotting on early leaves and to a lesser extent final few leaves. Light spotting to edge of text block. Lower edge untrimmed.
Minor inscription of a previous owner on first blank and also previous sale price and comment in pencil. Very small label of a Buenos Aires bookshop on front pastedown. Grace's first husband was an Irish Argentinian.
A very good copy.
