Austin Freeman, 1862-1943, was a British writer of detective stories, the Father of forensic crime fiction started his professional life as a physician and was a member of the Royal College of Surgeons. His health forced him to change careers and he became a writer of detective stories featuring Dr. Thorndyke, involving medico-legal forensic investigations, often using arcane scientific knowledge to help solve crimes. Mr. Pottermack was a settled, law-abiding citizen with nothing to hide--apparently.
