About This Item
The Bodley Head, publishers, London 1984 hardcover, 6¾" x 9½", with dust jacket Deckled foredges. VERY GOOD book in VERY GOOD unclipped dust jacket Mrs Patrick Campbell ('Mrs Pat') was one of the first 'actress-managers': running her own repertory company, attracting hugh audiences, yet she was dammed by many as eccentic and decadent. She had a typically Victorian liaison with actor-manager Forbes-Robertson, and Bernard Shaw fell violently in love with her. Her chief theatre rival was Ellen Terry, while Sarah Bernhardt, Oscar Wilde and Burne-Jones, her friends. Mrs Pat was one of the most arresting characters the theatre ever produced; her biography, with four colour plates and fory in b&w, is vital theatrical history. Packed book weighs 1.5 kilos (expect slightly higher-than-usual shipping).
