London: Neville Spearman, 1955. 1st. Hardcover. First Edition. INSCRIBED in Miller's hand "For Rollo Peters" and SIGNED by both Miller and Perles on a paper slip affixed to ffep. Charles Rollo Peters III was the son of noted California artist, Charles Rollo Peters, Jr. Two handwritten postcards (one an image of Miller at age 3 and the other an image of Miller's self portrait) from Henry Miller to Mr. Webster Street. Webster (Toby) Street was a life-long friend with John Steinbeck as well as one of his attorneys. Octavo. (xi) 242pp. Photographic plates. Blue cloth with gilt lettering to spine in photo-illustrated dust jacket. Preface by Henry Miller. Near fine (sunning to spine ends; offsetting to endpapers) in about very good dustjacket (chips to spine head, not affecting the title; creasing and chips to spine tail and lower front edge; wear to corners). A biography by one of Henry Miller's long time friends about life, work and art in Paris and back home in America; includes writers Anais Nin, Lawrence Durrell and critics such as Eliot, Ezra Pound, Cyril Connolly, and George Orwell. The London edition preceded the American edition. (Shifreen & Jackson B85a).
