About This Item
Fort Wayne, IN: Louis A. Warren Lincoln Library and Museum, 1981. Paperback. Small 4to. Stiff pictorial wrappers. 127pp. Frontispiece, illustrations. Very good. Slightest bit of mild wear. First edition, tight and nice, of the prolific historian's last book -- and bearing a fine autograph addition: Tipped to the half-title page is a 6¼" X 3¼" Christmas card sent by McMurtry in 1956 to noted Lincoln scholar ARNOLD F. GATES (1914-93). Front panel is a fine copperlate etching of a woodsy rural winter scene, while below the printed message on the inside panel McMurtry signs large and bold in blue ballpoint. McMurtry (1906-88) directed the Louis A. Warren Lincoln Library and Museum from 1956 to 1973 and wrote more than 200 articles, pamphlets and books about Lincoln.
