It went on to garner a Caldecott Honor medal the following year. Book is in Fine condition in orange cloth boards with title and picture in white. Unclipped dust jacket is unblemished. Vivid illustrations (both black-and-white and brilliant color) by Ruth Gannett. Pages are fresh and clean and binding is tight. Decorative endpapers. 8vo. Unpaginated. In protective Mylar. The book's happy ending proves an old Russian proverb: " We do not love people because they are beautiful, but they seem beautiful to us because we love them." The final page of the book has a drawn frame in which the reader can place a picture of their own mother.
