Freeman and Jules Noël depicting scenes of oceanic life and marine animal life. Third Edition of this handsome volume by Mangin (1824-1887). The work deals with the mythical history and myths of the ocean, its main phenomena (tides, currents, climatic variations, storms, marshes, etc.), marine fauna and flora (fish, fossils, crustaceans, shellfish, shells , Octopus, sea serpents, cetaceans, seals, sea birds, etc.), the relationship between man and the sea (sailing, fishing, hunting for cetaceans and amphibians, ocean diving etc.) .
There's a previous owner's bookplate and a stamp at the front. Otherwise a nice, clean edition.
