About This Item

New York: Harper and Row, 1969. first edition. hardcover. Book VG: mild shelf wear to boards and spine, slight lean, toning to endpapers, text unmarked, binding intact.. 8vo 899pp. from Preface: "This book is an attempt to gather into one place all that can be derived from Comparative Folklore and mythology for the interpretation of the Old Testament. It grew out of the publishers' invitation to me to prepare an updated edition of Sir James G. Frazer's FOlklore in the Old Testament on the lines of what I had previously tried to do for his Golden Bough. Very soon after I set to work, however, it became increasingly apparent that, to produce a work of any real use, I should have to go beyond that specification. [. . .] What I have done, then, is to go through the Old Testament from cover to over and pick out, verse by verse, anything on which Comparative Folklore or mythology may throw light." #02523 HEAVY ITEM WILL REQUIRE EXTRA S/H.
