Sage-green cloth pictorially stamped in gilt, dark green and red, blind stamped rules on rear. Brown endpapers; 8 full-page b&w illustrations. One-inch tear at bottom of outer rear hinge, spine ends and corners a bit worn, outer hinges a bit rubbed, spine slightly sunned and a tad cocked. The hero, after being wrecked and going through many stirring adventures among the Malays, finds his way to Calcutta and enlists in a regiment proceeding to join the army at the Afghan passes. He accompanies the force under General Roberts to the Peiwar Kotal, is wounded, taken prisoner, and carried to Cabul, whence he is transferred to Candahar to take part in the final defeat of the army of Ayoub Khan. Newbolt 22.1.
