A large collection of short biographies with attendant examples of the work of many prominent Norwegian authors, including a small portrait or photograph for each entry. Includes J. A. Munch, Wergeland, Welhaven, Monsen, Andeas Munch, Jorgen Moe, Aasen, Vinje, Camilla Collett, Ibsen, Bjornson, Jonas Lie, . Janson, John Lie, Caspari, many more. The cloth shows moderate edgewear with rubbing to the leather at the corners and spine ends; the headpiece is lacking (top 1/4" of the spine). Kristian Prestgard (1866-1946) was a Norwegian-born, naturalised American, author and the editor of the Norwegian language newspaper Decorah-Posten in Iowa from 1923 until 1946 I believe this is the first edition of his first book on Fridtjof Nansen, who was a Norwegian explorer, scientist, diplomat, humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.He make the first crossing of Greenland in 1888.
