A fascinating insight into the events and experiences on the island of St. Helena during the exile and eventual death of renowned French leader, Napoleon Bonaparte. Written by his physician at the time Barry Edward O'Meara. O'Meara was an Irish surgeon originally from Dublin and a founding member of the Reform Club, serving on board the Bellerophon as surgeon to Napoleon when the French surrendered. Complete in two volumes.Volume I is illustrated with a frontispiece, three plates in colour, a full page plan, and two in-text woodcuts. Volume II is illustrated with a frontispiece in colour, two additional plates in colour, a plate in black-and-white, and two in-text woodcuts.Collated and complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, some shelf wear to the boards, and darkening to the cloth to Volume II. Bumping to the heads and tails of the spines and extremities. Cloth is rubbed to the head and tail of the spine and joints on Volume II. Internally, binding is lightly strained, particularly to the hinges. A few spots to the pages, which are lightly age-toned to the extremities. Good
