About This Item
William Edward Painter, 1850. 1850 First Edition. hardcover. xx, 236pp, 16pp adverts, quarter brown leather with gilt titling to spine, sunning to top of rear board, small tear to folding map repaired, most pages a little dusty with occasional foxing, frontispiece bound in at p113, VG. A very scarce title.. Nunn had joined the crew of the Royal Sovereign on a sealing voyage, which after being chased by pirates down the West African coast arrived at Kerguelen Island. There the crew carried out repairs on the Royal Sovereign and also restored two ships, the Favorite and the Frances, which had been left there from a previous voyage. Nunn and three others became stranded at a remote location, and were assumed lost by the Captain, who returned to England. The book narrates the two years they were marooned on the island..
