Natalis Comes (Conti) was a 16th-century Italian humanist who is best, and mostly, remembered for his highly influential book 'Mythologiae'. This work became the standard source for all classical mythology throughout the Renaissance. Scholars and mythographers alike have noted that Conti's commentary on mythological heroes and tales inspire imagination and esoteric thinking, rather than simply just a retelling of the famous stories.

This 1584 two-volume edition is an incredibly rare first edition. The same year, another edition was produced with minor changes made to the first. See below.

Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban was a 17th-century French engineer who, after serving as the Marshal of France, became known as the greatest engineer of his time. It was from his surveys and developments in fortifications that propelled him to engineering fame. In fact, his fortification philosophies were used for nearly a century after his life. Vauban understood that at some point, all forts would fall, no matter how powerful.
