The United States Map Supplement is NOT PRESENT. National Geographic is the official magazine of the National Geographic Society. It has been published continuously since its first issue in 1888, nine months after the Society itself was founded. It primarily contains articles about geography, history, and world culture. The magazine is known for its extensive use of dramatic photographs. The magazine is published monthly, and additional map supplements are also included with subscriptions. On occasion, special editions of the magazine are issued. This issue includes: Our Green Treasury, the National Forests with 36 Illustrations (29 in Color) by Nathaniel T. Kenney and J. Baylor Roberts; Progress and Pageantry in Changing Nigeria with Map and 34 Illustrations (with 28 in Color) by W. Robert Moore; Gifts for the Jaguar God with Map and 8 Illustrations (4 in Color) by Philip Drucker and Robert F. Heizer; Kitimat--Canada's Aluminum Titan with Map and 18 Illustrations (10 in Color) by David S. Boyer; Philmont Scout Ranch Helps Boys Grow Up with Map and 13 Illustrations (10 in Color) by Andrew H. Brown; and The Diffident Truffle, France's Gift to Gourmets with 12 Illustrations. Philip Drucker (1911-1982) was an American anthropologist and archaeologist who specialized in the Native American peoples of the Northwest Coast of North America. Joseph Baylor Roberts (1902-1994) was one of the most dependable National Geographic staff photographers. He contributed to nearly 60 stories between 1936 and 1967.
