[26 pages of advertisements--some with color], pages 707-854, [and 12 pages of advertisements with some color]. Illustrations (with Seventy-two pages in color). Maps. Bible Lands Map is NOT PRESENT. Cover has some wear and soiling. Some damp stains at corner/edges National Geographic is the official magazine of the National Geographic Society. It has been published continuously since its first issue in 1888, nine months after the Society itself was founded. It primarily contains articles about geography, history, and world culture. The magazine is known for its extensive use of dramatic photographs. The magazine is published monthly, and additional map supplements are also included with subscriptions. On occasion, special editions of the magazine are issued. This issue includes: Jerusalem to Rome in the Path of St. Paul with 43 Illustrations (34 in Color) by David S. Boyer; Springtime Comes to Yellowstone with Map and 20 Illustrations (18 in Color) by Paul A. Zahl; Sky Survey Charts the Universe with 1 Illustration by Ira Sprague Bowen; Exploring the Farthest Reaches of Space with 9 Illustrations by George O. Abell; Tasmania, Australia's Island State with Map and 28 Illustrations (23 in Color) by Howell Walker; Florida's "Wild" Indians, the Seminole with Map and 26 Illustrations (22 in Color) by Louis Capron and Willard R. Culver; and Raccoon: Amiable Rogue in a Black Mask with 17 Illustrations by Melvin R. Ellis. Paul Arthur Zahl (1910 - 1985) was an explorer and biologist. He served as senior scientist to the National Geographic Society from 1958 to 1975. Abell made great contributions to astronomical knowledge which resulted from his work during and after the National Geographic Society - Palomar Observatory Sky Survey.
