In 2 parts - the second part published over a year after the first as writing was disrupted by a major fire. The binding is complete and sound, with contemporary boards (scuffed) and later spine and corners. The spine has small raised bands and gilt titles. There is rubbing to spine joints. Internally a number of old catalogue entries about the work have been pasted to the front pastedown endpaper. Contents: folding map, title, preface, author list & contents xiv; text 206pp with 14 plates; title Pt 2, author's preface, contents viii; text 291pp with 14 plates - finis; directions to binder, index and errata xii. The map is in good clean condition with some staining at the bottom and side margins. There are 2 paper flaw holes in the top margin p 1/2, 2 repaired flaws in the text at 148 with no loss of text, and a small repaired flaw at 197. There are some paper repairs at the end of the work: repaired gutter tear 4th index leaf; loss of part of gutter at the top of the 5th index leaf and old repairs to the final leaf. One plate is bound in upside down and the sea serpent plate and opposing text page - Pt II, p 196 are toned. Overall the contents are in good clean condition with sporadic light staining at the top or bottom margin. Some leaves have toning or the occasional spot. About E C Books

E C Books is a small online bookselling business, specialising in pre 20th century works:natural history, science, history, and travel, aiming for rarer and more unusual books. Our largest stock area is Natural History, where we have a good range of books from the 1700-1800's, many finely illustrated. Other areas include children's books, particularly late 1800's-early 1900's - again illustrated; and literature pre 1900.When you order books from us we ensure that they are properly packed to protect condition, and we always use recorded or 'signed for' postal services for more secure delivery. Please note that we have recently moved to the beautiful Orkney Islands, where we intend to open a bookshop over the next year. Because of our location we cannot guarantee 'next day' delivery but we will get your purchase to you as quickly and safely as we can. Please note that the buyer is responsible for the payment of any tax or duty on import.
