Washington DC: Associates in Negro Folk Education, 1937. Softcover. Good Only. Octavo, brown card covers with an art deco design. Considerable shelfwear, missing two small sections (1 in. and 1/2 in.) of paper near top and bottom of spine, and a 1 in. x 1/2 in. chip missing from bottom corner of rear panel. 142 pp.

Signature of previous owner to top of front panel. This owner was none other than Francis Colemen Rosenberger, lawyer, member of the U.S. Senate legal staff, onetime president of the Federal Bar Association, and prolific poet in his own right, creator of seven books of published poetry.

The book was an offering (No. 7) in a series entitled "Bronze Booklets", which looked at "the history, problems and cultural contributions of the Negro".
Divided into two sections, Mr. Brown's book begins with an overview of the Negro in American poetry, presenting Early American Negro Poetry, Negro Folk Poetry, Paul Lewis Dunbar and Traditional Dialect, and The Romantic Tradition, Contemporary Negro Poetry, and a chapter on Whtie Poetry of Negro Life before 1914. Part two looks at Early Drama of Negro Life, Negro Folk Drama, and discusses Realistic and Problem Drama. Sterling Brown was a distinguished scholar, poet, theatrical director and dramaturge.
