About This Item

London: Caxton, 2003. 320 pp, large 8vo (9 1/2" H). Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs, reproductions, drawings, maps. "This compelling narrative recounts the 28-year career of HMS Agamemnon, a 64-gun ship of the line which became one of the most famous vessels of the Royal Navy, commanded between 1793 and 1796 by Nelson, who always referred to her as his favourite ship. For three of the most critical decades of British naval history, Agamemnon was at the centre of events, fighting at the Battle of the Saintes, Copenhagen and, of course, Trafalgar. Later she served in the West Indies, participating in the Battle of Santo Domingo, and in South American waters until she was wrecked in 1809 in Maldonado Bay, off the coast of present-day Uruguay. This fascinating account of Agamemnon's career highlights all the significant events of the period and portrays the authentic world of the Nelsonic era." Book is Fine. Dust jacket has very light rubbing, two small faint scratches on rear panel.. Reprint. Hard Cover. Fine/Very Good+. Illus. by Geoff Hunt cover art..
