London: Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, Green & Longman 1835 - 1837. Two volumes, large 12mo, pp vi, (ii), 402, (2); xxiv, 407 - 674, original green cloth, not matching. Volume 1 - mid-green pebble cloth, age-toned, a little marked and worn, slightly bubbled on the upper cover, spine and paper label browned, a rather untidy signature on the front endpaper of the botanist Harry James Goddard with two addresses, a very few additions in ink for new localities, joints a little cracked but perfectly sound, slight foxing and marking. Volume 2 - dark green Victorian cloth, a bit stained and a little worn, spine label lacking portions, 16-page publisher's catalogue at front endpaper, inscribed "from the author" on endpaper and with the signature of the botanist James Hardy, though the likely first owner is the surgeon/botanist and plant collector George Henderson whose signature is found on the verso of the cumulative title page, a bit weak internally, rear endpapers stained, lacking the final blank leaf. RARE. [Henderson was medical officer on the 1870 Chinese Turkestan expedition and brought home a very complete and valuable collection of Yarkand plants, the first ever made in that region, which was presented to Kew Gardens. He also obtained 59 species of birds and a few Lepidoptera - Bretschneider.]. First Edition. Cloth. Good.
