New York: Fords, Howard & Hulbert, 1883. First Edition Thus, Later Printing. Full Leather. Good/No Jackets. Over 200 b/w Illustrations (including plates); title Pages (red/black). 4to - over 9¾" - 12" Tall (tall). In full brown leather with gilt titling and border rulinig, 4to, xvi, [4], 496; [4], 500-1100 pages + plates. Later issue of BAL #1755; the "Memorial Edition", with the biographical memoir of Bryant by James Grant Wilson in volume 1, and indexes of first lines and quotations at rear of volume 2. Originally issued in this format in 1880 (copyright dates of 1870, 1877, 1880 and 1883 on title page verso of both volumes). (Shelfwear and rubbing along spine and board edges, front board detached on both volumes, staining to the upper corners & foreedge margins of title and preliminary pages and endpapers).
