About This Item

London. George Eyre& Andrew Strahan, 1818 2 volume set in original case. At foot of last page of New Testament: 'Corrall, Printer, Charing Cross' (both volumes were typeset with Corrall's tiny but very legible type, which later became famous through early Pickering's Diamond miniature editions). Unpaginated. All edges gilt. 5.5 x 9 cm. Contemporary cerise silk bindings. Boards with scrolling gilt decoration of alternating palmette and honeysuckle motifs with gilt tulip (two leaves and stamen) motif corner pieces (some very marginal wear and slight soiling). Spines with single, double and pointille fillets, gilt lettering and gilt bordered quatrefoil designs (some very marginal wear and slight soiling). Both volumes in their original royal blue paper lined, dark blue straight grained morocco slipcase, that is shaped like a book- with blind hand-tooled borders andgilt lettered spine (slightly rubbed). Original binder's ticket inside upper half of slipcase: "W.Houghton, Twelve Years with & successor to Mr. Wrangham, stationer &c. 161 New Bond Street". Anthony Wrangham and his relatives operated at a few different addresses in and around New Bond Street from the mid late 1700's. Preliminary investigation indicates that he operated from No. 161 from 1809 to 1814. W.Houghton was still at 161 New Bond Street in 1833 but examples of his ticket are uncommon. Silk bookbindings from the Georgian period are uncommon in good condition.. Hardcover. Very Good.

About Camden Lock Books, ABA, IOBA.

My online bookselling is Camden Lock books. I own Camden Lock Books & list books that are uncommon, in demand and may be hard to find.

My book expertise came with four years as Chairman of London P.B.F.A. , many more years of exhibiting at monthly London Rare Book Fairs & owning my own bookshops continuously since 1984.

Every book here was valued by the person who first bought it and will be just as prized by the person who buys it now from my shopping website.

I am an accredited professional & a full member of the ABA, ILAB and the IOBA, "Setting the standard. The books you want...from booksellers you can trust".

You can meet me on my stand at Firsts 2024, London's Rare Book Fair, at the Saatchi Gallery, London SW3 4RY, 16-19 May 2024.
I also am joint owner of Burley Fisher Books , an independent bookshop offering new and secondhand books.
