Illustrated with alternation vintage black and white and contemporary color photographs. Fine in fine dust jacket. One of the most interesting photographic looks at New York City and its history, the books offers vintage 19th and early 20th century views of Gotham buildings and places side-by-side with modern images of the same spots. A few examples: a 1913 view of the city's first skyscraper, the Woolworth Building opposite a modern view of the same building from the same angle with the World Trade Center looming behind it; the orinial William Waldorf Astor residence in 1893 and the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in 2002; a baseball game in progress at the first incarnation of the Polo Grounds in 1886 and a view of the same site, 5th Avenue and 110th Street today.
