London: Oxford University Press, 1963. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. The interior of the book is clean and fresh, with just a few signs of previous use, including a former owner's name on the front free end paper. The red covers are clean, with light wear at edges and corners. The dust jacket has light fraying at the top and bottom of the spine, but is otherwise in very good condition. The attached scan gives a better idea of condition. Synopsis: On holiday in Italy in 1853, Captain Nicholas Carey -- persuaded by his cousin Andrew -- finds himself involved in the escape of three Italian revolutionaries from the Papal States. He rejoins his regiment, only to be sent to Paris by his uncle to find Andrew, who is still involved with the Italians. He and Andrew foil an attempt on the life of Napoleon III before Nicholas and his comrades are sent to fight ini the Crimean war, where he proves he is a worthy member of the Carey family.
