Dustjacket with tears and small chips, with adhesive tape repairs. Some stains to dustjacket. Dustjacket spine faded, with abrasions. Dustjacket protected in archival mylar cover. ; February 1941 printing (second UK Printing). With "Colonial Edition" rubber stamp on the front endpaper and on front flap of dustjacket. 454 pages. Blue cloth boards with white lettering on spine. Page dimensions: 217 x 137mm. American poet and novelist, the author's first novel. This is the "story of Perse Munn, a young lawyer caught up in the Kentucky Tobacco War" - from dust-jacket blurb. "When the train slowed at the first jarring application of the brakes, the crowd packed in the aisle of the coach swayed crushingly forward with the grinding, heavy momentum of the start of a landslip." - the opening sentence. .
