London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1904. First edition. Cloth. Good. 7.5" by 5". Stanley Davis. The first edition of this novel by noted author W. W. Jacobs. In the original pictorial cloth binding. Illustrated by Stanley Davis with six full page plates. With the bookplate of one 'J. Timothy Kenrick'. W W Jacobs was an English writer of short stories and novels. Much of his work was humorous, however he is best remembered for his short horror story 'The Monkey's Paw' which can be found in The Lady of the Barge. In a pictorial red cloth binding. Externally generally smart with rubbing to the extremities and the head and tail of the spine. Marks to the boards. Book is cocked. Front hinge strained. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally firmly bound. Loss to page 145, not affecting the text. Pages generally bright and clean with scattered spotting heavier to the first and last few pages. Good
