Gibbs, Jr, noted American ichthyologist. He was an authority on pelagic and deep-sea fishes. He was a long-standing curator at the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History as well as an avid conservationist and a member of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists for over 30 years.
