No date, but preface to the 5th edition dated 1866. xxiv, 400pp, 16pp ads. Rebound in 1977 as per note on (new) end paper. Front cloth with teepee and snowshoes, paddle & weapons in gilt preserved, as is back end paper. Frontispiece with tissue guard plus 22 B&W wood engraved plates, (1 double), 2 fold-out colored maps, one bound in with small loss to margin, one in (now back) pocket, complete. Pencil dates, identification of times and places, and notes throughout in margins, including sometimes on margins of woodcuts and maps. Third Edition. A lively narrative of an overland expedition across Canada, through the Yellow Head Pass in the northern Rocky Mountains, to British Columbia. After a difficult and risky crossing of the Rockies, the party reached Kamloops, and from there journeyed to Westminster and Victoria, returning to the mainland to visit the Cariboo gold diggings.
