He started his career as a lawyer, before turning his attentions to the literary life. He tried in publishing, before he found his passion for journalism and literature.This set includes of Ainsworth's best known works, including his exciting historical romances, covering subjects such as Henry VIII, Lady Jane Grey, prisoners at Newgate, the Great Fire of London, the Pendle Witches, and more. Including;'The Flitch of Bacon, The Lancashire Witches, Boscobel'.'The Life and Adventures of Mervyn Clithehoe, Ovingdean Grange, Auriol'. 'Tower of London, Manchester Rebels, Beau Nash'.'Windsor Castle, James II, St. James's, The Star Chamber'.'Old St. Paul's, Jack Sheppard, Guy Fawkes'.'Crichton, Rockwood, The Miser's Daughter, The Spendthrift'. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, worn, with rubbing to the boards and spines. Bumping to the extremities, and to the head and tail of the spines. 'Flitch of Bacon' small loss of paper to the tail of the front board and to the spine label, lifting to the head of the spine, and a small chip to the rear joint. 'Mervyn Clithehoe' loss and lifting to the head of the spine, small chip to the spine labels, loss of leather to the joints, and leather to the joints is lifting, crack to the head of the rear joint. 'Crichton' a small amount of loss to the tail of the spine, small cracks to the head of the joints, loss to the front board. 'Old St. Paul's' loss to the top spine label, a little wear to the extremities, small crack to the rear joint. 'Windsor Castle' chips to the spine labels, loss of leather and paper to the joints, leather to the front joint is lifting, a little wear to the extremities, two small chips to the front joint. 'Tower of London' crack oto the tail of the front joint, loss to the extremities, small chip to the rear joint. 'Flitch of Bacon' hinges are weak, front and rear endpaper are detached but present. 'Old St. Paul's' front hinge is starting, rear hinge is strained. 'Mervyn Clithehoe', 'Crichton', 'Windsor Castle', and 'Tower of London' hinges are weak. 'Crichton' lacking the rear endpaper, loss to the front endpaper. 'Tower of London' rear endpaper is detached but present. Internally, generally firmly bound, a little more strained to 'Crichton'. Pages are bright and generally clean with some scattered spots. Good
